Companies in Norway That Hire Internationals

None of them, and all of them, because Norway does not work that way. There is no sponsor licence, no register of approved employers and no permission a company has to hold before it can hire you. You apply for the permit yourself; the employer only confirms the job offer. That is the single biggest difference from the Netherlands or the UK, and it is why any Norwegian list claiming a "sponsors visa" column is inventing one. What actually decides your case is whether the job is skilled work and whether it pays above UDI’s floor.

For a position requiring a bachelor degree, at least NOK 545,400 per year before tax. For one requiring a master, at least NOK 624,700. Those are UDI’s current published figures and they moved on 1 May 2026, so a page quoting NOK 599,200 or NOK 480,900 is out of date. Where a collective agreement covers the role, the rule is simply that you get the collective rate. UDI can accept less if you document that it is normal for your occupation in that place, but says plainly that this takes substantial evidence.

In some places, yes. 50 of the 116 employers here run day to day in English, concentrated in tech, energy, maritime and research, where the whole industry is international. Outside those, the picture changes quickly: a dozen entries on this list are marked Rarely, meaning Norwegian is needed for almost everything, and that is normal for public bodies, healthcare and anything customer-facing. Norwegian is also easier for an English speaker than most European languages, which is worth knowing before you rule the country out.

One of three things has to be true: you completed a vocational programme of at least three years at upper secondary level that has a Norwegian equivalent, or you finished a university or university college degree, or you have special qualifications from long experience, normally six years or more, evidenced by detailed employer certificates. UDI states that many applications on that third route are rejected, so treat it as the hard path rather than the flexible one. Your qualifications also have to be relevant to the specific post, and regulated professions need their own approval on top.

Almost certainly not, and this is the thing most worth knowing before you plan anything. Norway does have a job-seeker permit, but UDI limits it to one group: people who recently graduated in Norway, and researchers. UDI puts it bluntly for everyone else, that you cannot come to Norway until you have received a job offer and been granted a residence permit. If you do qualify, it runs for a maximum of one year, you need NOK 28,448 a month or NOK 341,373 for the year in your own money, usually in a Norwegian account, and that year does not count towards permanent residence. For everybody else the order is fixed: offer first, permit second, move third. Which is exactly why a list of employers and their careers pages is the useful thing to have.
