I did all of this the wrong way round, alone
I moved to Germany from Pakistan with a suitcase, an admission letter and no idea that a clock had started the day I arrived. Nobody told me the bank would want a certificate I did not have, that the certificate needed a form from a landlord I had barely met, or that a letter about a "Beitrag" was a bill and not a brochure. I found out the way most people do: by getting a fine, by getting a second letter with costs added to the first, and by discovering that a contract I thought I had cancelled was still quietly taking money a year later.
The worst part was not the German. It was sitting at a kitchen table with an envelope I could not read and no way to know whether it was serious. Every one of those letters was a weekend of worry, and most of them were nothing a sentence of explanation would not have fixed.
Years later I have the German passport, and I have walked a lot of people through their first month at Ankommo. The same six things go wrong every time, in the same order. This kit is the list I wish somebody had handed me on day one: what to do each week, the exact German to send, what to bring to each counter, and what every scary envelope actually means.

Four tabs. The plan is the first one.
Every screenshot on this page is the real kit, not a mock-up.
Plan
28 tasks in 6 stops, each dated from your move date, each with its own lesson: how, what to bring, what it costs, what to watch out for, and what proves it is done.
Guides
Eight guides for when you want the whole picture: the documents, the flat, the Anmeldung form field by field, the bank and the insurance, the permit, the budget, the counter, the letters.
Templates
10 letters and forms in German with the English beside them. Fill in the yellow parts, press copy, send.
Phrases
22 sentences to read off your phone at the counter, and 40 words from the letters and forms, each explained in one plain line.
The plan · one task, in full
Every task opens into a lesson a child could follow
This is the Anmeldung task exactly as the kit shows it, inside the "Register" stop. Numbered steps, what to have with you, what it costs, the mistake people make, and the line that tells you it is done. The 27 others are built the same way.

Do this now
The week after you land · Register
Do the Anmeldung and photograph the Meldebescheinigung the same day
Everything after it asks for this certificate.
- 1Fill in the registration form at home the night before. Guide 4 explains every field.
- 2Go with the folder. The clerk wants to see the passport and the signed landlord form; the rest is backup.
- 3Say the one sentence: "Ich möchte mich anmelden." Hand over the form.
- 4Leave with the Meldebescheinigung. Ask for a second copy ("eine zweite Bescheinigung, bitte").
- 5Photograph it in the building. The bank, the insurer and the Ausländerbehörde will all ask for it.
Have with you
- Passport
- The signed Wohnungsgeberbestätigung
- The filled-in registration form
- Booking confirmation
- Marriage and birth certificates for family, translated and stamped
Watch out
- The religion line starts church tax if you tick a church that collects it. "Keine" is a legal answer for anyone who is not a member of such a church.
Done when: A photo of your Meldebescheinigung is on your phone.
The guides
Eight guides, each opening with the short version

Read one of the 10 templates in full before you pay
This is the request for the landlord form, the one piece of paper the Anmeldung cannot happen without. The others are built the same way: the German you send on the left, what it says on the right, the parts to fill in marked in yellow, and one line to read before you press send.

English · what it says
Subject: Landlord confirmation for the address registration, [street, number]
Dear [Ms/Mr Last name], On [move-in date] I am moving into the flat at [street, number, floor]. For the registration at the Bürgeramt I need the landlord confirmation under § 19 BMG. Could you give me the completed, signed form at the key handover, or send it by email beforehand? I have attached my city's form; the details of the flat are already filled in and only your signature is missing. Many thanks in advance. Yours sincerely [First name Last name] [Phone number]
Fill in[Frau/Herr Nachname][Einzugsdatum][Straße, Nr., Stockwerk][Telefonnummer]
The landlord is obliged to give you the form (§ 19 BMG). Naming the paragraph is what turns a favour into a routine.
Six mistakes from real first months, priced by the rule behind them
Every figure here is the statute's own, linked inside the kit. None of them is an estimate of what it would cost you; each is what it has cost people.
| The mistake | What it costs | Where the kit stops it |
|---|---|---|
| Registering your address late, or not at all | A fine of up to €1,000 (§ 54 BMG) | The Anmeldung task: the request email that proves you asked in time. |
| Paying a deposit before you have seen the flat | Up to three cold rents, gone | Guide 3: the five scams and the sentence that defeats each. |
| Ignoring the broadcasting-fee letter | €18.36 a month, fixed by notice with costs added | The settle stop: register, or say the flat already pays. |
| A subscription you thought you had cancelled | Up to two more years of payments | Guide 9: the Kündigung template and the four exits. |
| Booking the Ausländerbehörde instead of applying in writing | An expired visa and no legal status until the office decides | The permit task: the application that stops the clock (§ 81 Abs. 4 AufenthG). |
| Arriving with a wrongly stamped birth certificate | Originals posted home and a second trip to an office there | Guide 2: the stamp before the translation. |
No guarantee, and five things the kit does not do
The kit cannot promise you a flat, a slot or a permit. It promises that you will know what to do each week, what to send, and what each letter means. Beyond that:
- Legal advice. The kit cites the statutes a tenant, a customer or a new resident is expected to know, and names the office that decides each question.
- An insurer comparison. Guide 5 explains who is insured where and how registration works; it names no insurer and recommends none.
- Appointments. No kit can conjure a Bürgeramt slot; what this one does is tell you what to send so a late slot costs you nothing.
- The visa application before you fly. That is the free visa checker and the Study and Work journeys; the kit starts when the visa is in your passport, or the day you land.
- Reviews from buyers. The kit launched in October 2026; there are none yet, and the page will carry real ones only when they exist.

Before you buy
- When do I get access?
- The moment the payment clears. The checkout sends you straight into the kit, and the confirmation email carries the same personal link, which works on any device without an account or a password.
- Does it update when Germany changes a rule or a fee?
- Yes. The kit is a living page, not a file: when a fee, a deadline or a form changes, the kit changes with it and your link always shows the current version, at no extra cost. The PDF inside is a snapshot for offline reading and is rebuilt with every content update.
- Is there a PDF?
- Yes, a print edition of every guide, with the plan and every task lesson as chapter 1, downloadable from inside the kit. The countdown, the ticks and the copy buttons live in the web version.
- Can I get a refund?
- You have the 14-day right of withdrawal that applies to online purchases in the EU (§ 355 BGB). Write to hello@ankommo.de from the address you bought with and the money goes back the same way it came.
- I am already in Germany. Is it too late for the kit?
- No. Type the day you arrived as the move date and the plan opens on the stop you are in. The Anmeldung task, the bring lists, the budget and the letters guide are the parts people in their first weeks use most.
- Does it work for students, employees and families alike?
- Yes. Where the route differs (health insurance, what to bring to the Ausländerbehörde, proof of funds) the kit says which line applies to which situation. It does not cover the visa application itself before you fly; the free Germany visa checker and the Study and Work journeys on Ankommo do.
